Class Party and Karaoke
On Saturday we slept in after an eventful night in Kobe. We went to the Combini (convenience store) and Philip showed us the most polite and shy Japanese woman behind a till ever. Was sad but funny at the same time. I still don't know what to make of her. Our main event for the day was to go to a Christmas party for his adult evening class. There was a secret santa thing going on too so we had to go to the "Bulldog" which is a store full of tacky presents. We didn't know who we were buying for or if we were buying for a man or woman but Philip said there were mostly women in the class so just shop for a woman and we'd be fine. It only had to be something small and crap and under 1,000 yen, so I bought a picture frame. Pretty unisex. The Christmas party was in a Okonomiyaki restaurant. Most of the food was good but I didn't enjoy some of it. Myself, Eric, Philip and Kay were put at different tables so that more people could talk to the English speakers. It was a lot of fun and it was a nomihodai - all you can drink. These seem common here, probably because Japanese people don't drink that much. After the dinner, some of the class went home and the rest of us went out for some karaoke. How many people can say they sang karaoke with a group of women of all ages in Hyogo. Again the duet of Fairytale of New York came out with Philip at some stage. The final song of the night was Philip and Eric singing "We Didn't Start the Fire". It was impressive.
